Myanmar Needs Your Help!
This May, a very strong category 4 cyclone named Nargis struck land on Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), killing over 100,000 people and many more. It was the worst natural disaster to ever strike that country.
My good friend and Mixwit.com founder, Mike, spent about a month traveling in Myanmar after graduating from college. He has started a project called “Blogging for Burma” on his personal blog dedicated to sharing his experiences and raising awareness and funding for the relief efforts underway.
More specifically, Mike is raising money for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders). He has a humble goal of raising $5,000 and has personally donated 10% of that amount himself—a pretty staggering amount for a startup entrepreneur living off of mission burritos and assorted San Francisco Thai take-out.
I have been thinking a lot lately about how we are increasingly a global society. The evidence is in the way our economies are interconnected, the way information flows across the globe in a matter of seconds and also in the ability for ordinary folks halfway across the world to lend a helping hand to fund a entrepreneur or help some one gain access to safe water, shelter and medical attention.
I have decided to make a donation of $100 to Doctors Without Borders on behalf of Mike’s campaign and I encourage you to match that with as little or as much as you can afford. Additionally, if your company has a matching gifts program, I’d encourage you to try and get them to match your donation. Unfortunately, Doctors Without Borders has a corporate gift acceptance policy that precludes my employer from matching my donation, but you may be in a more advantageous situation!
If you can afford to do so, please consider taking this year’s economic stimulus check and putting it towards this worthy cause.

PS: There’s even a Facebook group!
