Interesting article in Newsweek…
Overwhelming competition, difficult discovery and the rapid race to the bottom of the pricing chart ($0-$0.99) is making it increasingly more difficult to make a decent sustainable profit.
I think at some point developers will be forced to walk away/deprioritize iPhone, raise their prices gradually, move to another platform with some price floor or alternate models (see: subscription).
With no fewer than 6 imminent Android OS phone launches in the US, I think that marketplace may have a chance to pick up steam. Of course Android Market is not without its own problems—any user can return your app for a full refund within 24 hours—sorry game developers! (note: Gaming is the most popular category in mobile apps)
