Okay so now its actually an 8GB iPod for 197 (2 dollars off the Apple price). Walmart’s retail footprint will still move a large # of devices, but that $99 price point certainly wouldn’t have hurt!

This certainly isn’t the first $99 iPhone rumor we’ve seen, but it would be significant for a couple of reasons. 1) Walmart has unparalleled retail footprint and 2) $99 is generally the pricepoint at which adoption for cellphones begins to rapidly accelerate. At $99, iPhone sales could be strong despite the recession.
Seems like too much margin for Apple to give up though…
